Today, the first library school in the US opened at Columbia University in 1877. And with the new Speaker of the House (Nancy Pelosi) just sworn in--making her the highest ranking woman in United States history--it's interesting to reflect that on this day in 1925 Mrs. Nellie Taylor Ross was sworn in as the first female governor in the US (from Wyoming). And in 1944, The London Daily Mail, the first transoceanic newspaper, was published.
