Reason for Divorce

Here’s a reason for divorce (but not for relationship dissolution) we don’t include in our textbooks. Guatemala’s President Alvaro Colom and Sandra Torres—married for eight years—have divorced. The reason? Guatemalan law prevents any president’s close relatives from running for election to political office and by divorcing—though the couple will likely continue to live together as they have for the last eight years—Sandra Torres will be able to run for political office/President.
