Public speaking
A recent letter to the editor (regarding the op-ed piece in the New York Times where a variety of professors gave advice to students and posted recently), makes the point that amid all this good advice, no one mentioned the importance of public speaking. "One piece of advice that I didn't see," wrote this emeritus professor biology, "was that students should take a course and gain as much experience as possible in public speaking. No matter what career students pursue, they will have to stand up and speak to a group of people sometime, and they are usually not well prepared to do so." Of course, this is something we know but it's nice to see that people in other field also recognize the importance of public speaking.

Ya, Public speaking is important to everyone as a human, no matter who is he. It requires lot of practice.No one can make it perfect in a very first go. Hats off to the biology professor for commenting such an important thing.
Hey it is great that u brought this up Public speaking is important in all walks of life for example i am a trained Electronics Engineer and never thought that i would need to do public speaking so did not worry a lot about it but then i had to join the Outsourcing industry and worked as an Analyst and i had to explain a lot of things to a group of people and in order to put my ideas i had to speak in public the best analyst was not the person who had the best idea but the person who could put forward the best idea.
Public speaking is an art. Being a part of the consulting industry i had to make business presentations to my superiors and clients about the progress of the projects.Some where down the line I felt that i needed to improve on my presentation and public speaking skills so that i can make a more meaninful impact on the audience
